Cheapest Months to Visit Málaga (and When to Skip the Crowds)

Published 30 September 2026 · When fares to AGP bottom out, when they spike — and the shoulder months where the Costa del Sol is at its best.

Málaga sells itself as a year-round destination, and the climate mostly backs it up — but the price of getting here does not follow the weather. Fly in February and you can pay a fraction of the August fare for the same seat. Here is the long-term shape of the year at AGP.

The cheapest months: January, February, November

Late January and February are the bargain window. The Christmas crowds have gone home, northern Europe is deep in winter (which paradoxically keeps some demand alive — Málaga is the warmest easy escape), and airlines discount aggressively to fill seats. November runs close behind: after the October half-terms, before the Christmas build-up. Daytime temperatures still reach the high teens, and while you will not be swimming every day, long sunny spells are normal.

Caveat: "cheap" is relative and fares move daily. The pattern is reliable; the exact numbers are not. Book early, fly midweek, and compare the train-plus-budget-airline maths if you are flexible.

The sweet spots: March–May and September–October

If you want warmth and value, the shoulder seasons win. April, May and late September through October deliver temperatures in the low-to-mid 20s, a sea warm enough to swim in, thinner crowds than summer — and fares and hotel rates well below peak. May and October are the connoisseur's picks: full sunshine, the coast at its most pleasant, and restaurants with tables free.

Watch out for Semana Santa (Easter week): it can fall in March or April, and when it does, that week prices like August. Málaga's Easter processions are spectacular — but you will pay peak rates to see them.

The expensive weeks: avoid if your wallet cares

July and August are the peak on every axis: highest fares, highest hotel rates, 35°C+ days inland, packed beaches, and the longest queues at AGP's passport control and car-rental desks. If you must travel in August, book accommodation early and fly midweek. The other spikes are Christmas to New Year and the UK school half-terms (late October, February, late May) — short, sharp demand surges on the UK routes that dominate AGP's traffic.

Winter sun without the winter prices?

December is a split month: early December can be excellent value, while the week between Christmas and New Year is one of the year's most expensive. If you want winter sun on a budget, early December or January beats the festive fortnight on price — with daytime highs still around 16–18°C, which feels miraculous if you have just left a grey northern airport.

Cheapest-month questions

What is the cheapest month to fly to Málaga?
January and February (outside school holidays) are typically the cheapest months for flights to AGP, followed by November. Fares are demand-driven and move constantly — the pattern below is the long-term shape, not a price promise.
When is Málaga most expensive?
July and August are the peak: highest fares, highest hotel rates, busiest beaches and the longest airport queues. Easter week (Semana Santa) and the Christmas–New Year stretch are the other big spikes.
Is October a good month to visit Málaga?
Often the sweet spot: the sea is at its warmest, daytime temperatures sit in the mid-20s, the summer crowds have gone, and fares and hotel prices have dropped from peak. Late October can bring the season’s first proper rain, but long sunny spells remain the norm.
